Product Design

At the core of our business we specialise in developing new products that will disrupt the current market. Sketches lead to concept CAD work and virtual prototyping, where we can test out critical parameters. Following on to prototypes and fully working models. Below are a couple of examples of how we can help.

Product 1 - Bicycle Water Bottle holder

You work for a cycling shop and have a idea for a improved cycle water bottle holder that stops the bottle falling out and keeps the bottle top clean.

  • You have a working prototype
  • You already understand the market
  • You have a target price
  • You understand the competition

How we could help you develop his Product

  • We send you a two way non disclosure agreement, this protects your invention.
  • Free product evaluation  -  We review your product
  • Free Product development plan - We work with you to create a plan that will take your product through to production.
  • As the product is simple we are happy give you a fixed price
  •  We create a 3d model from your prototypes along with a drawing with critical dimensions.
  • We recommend some manufactures that you forward your 3d and model and drawing too.

Please remember unlike some companies we don't charge you any royalties, all the intellectual property still belongs to you. Even if you go on to sell millions and we won't charge you a penny more.

We just hope that you will recommend us to your friends and families and let us help with your next exciting product.

Product 2 - Hedge Trimmer

  • You work as a receptionist but have had a great idea for a hedge trimmer
  • You have no prototypes only an idea
  • Also no knowledge of the market, as you don't actually own a hedge trimmer but have used one once.

How we could help you

  • We send you a two way non disclosure agreement, this protects your invention.
  • Free product evaluation  -  We review your product
  • Free Product development plan - We work with you to create a plan that will take your product through to production.

We guide you along the process and help you when you get stuck we charge you £25 an hour

Product development Plan

STEP 1.  Specification

An detailed specification is key reduce development time and ensure that we help you produce a product that sells.

The first part of this will involve researching the current market and often testing competitor products.

The specification will normally evolve during the development process, and will be a balance between cost and performance.

Key things your specification should include.

  • What is your USP (unique selling point)
  • Performance matrix
  • Target price
  • Key selling points
  • Who are you main competitors

If you would like us to  guide you through this process please don't hesitate to CONTACT US

Make your specification achievable

Step 2. Brain storming phase

Ideally get a few people around a table

Ask yourself

  • What are the key problems?
  • What are the risks?
  • Is there a easier way to solve them?

And don't forget to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

Often the simple solutions will be far more reliable and quicker and easier to implement.

There's plenty of time for it to get more complicated.

Step 3. Testing Phase

This is the first chance to start testing your ideas and finding out if it will meet your specification.

  • Proof of concept
  • Rig must demonstrate core technology this might consist of multiple test rigs.
  • Key hand calculations to show project viability

Stage gate meeting to communicate risks and progress. At this point it will not be possible to demonstrate that all the problems have been solved.

Step 4. Intergradation Phase

  • First attempt at integrating rigs
  • Parts often 3d printed where applicable with external scew bosses,
  • Often fitted with additional sensors these might be a rage of things from pressure tapping's to temperature sensors

Step  5. Refinement Breadboard

  • Realistic materials used where possible (Often machined from billet)
  • All key specifications targets demonstrated
  • DFMEA

Stage gate meeting to communicate risks and progress

Step 7. Tooling Models

  • Tolerance Stacks
  • Mould flow analysis
  • Tooling draft

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work on large products?

No... We are happy to help where we can, If it's simply a drawing update we will happy to help

Can you help with FEA?

Yes, But often simple hand calculations are sufficient. We will only normally only recommend FEA if the design has high stress areas and is weight critical.

Would you recommend a full set of production drawings?

No.. Most the manufactures now accept 3d models, this speeds up there process, however we would recommend creating  drawings with critical dimensions.
