Product development Plan

STEP 1.  Specification


An detailed specification is key reduce development time and ensure that we help you produce a product that sells.


The first part of this will involve researching the current market and often testing competitor products.

The specification will normally evolve during the development process, and will be a balance between cost and performance.


 Key things your specification should include.

  • What is your USP (unique selling point)
  • Performance matrix
  • Target price
  • Key selling points
  • Who are you main competitors

Step 2. Brain storming phase

Ideally get a few people around a table

Ask yourself

  • What are the key problems?
  • What are the risks?
  • Is there a easier way to solve them?

And don't forget to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

Often the simple solutions will be far more reliable and quicker and easier to implement.

There's plenty of time for it to get more complicated.

Step 3. Testing Phase

This is the first chance to start testing your ideas and finding out if it will meet your specification.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work on large products?

No... We are happy to help where we can, If it's simply a drawing update we will happy to help


Can you help with FEA?

Yes, But often simple hand calculations are sufficient. We will only normally only recommend FEA if the design has high stress areas and is weight critical.



Would you recommend a full set of production drawings?

No.. Most the manufactures now accept 3d models, this speeds up there process, however we would recommend creating  drawings with critical dimensions.
